Cafco meeting all PFP requirements

Following the development and launch (in 2002) of SprayFilm WB2 to provide fire protection on structural beams and columns, Alfreton based passive fire protection material manufacturer Cafco International has now introduced Cafco SprayFilm WB3.
Like WB2, SprayFilm WB3 is a water-based intumescent paint, based upon polyvinyl acetate resins and fillers, that is able to provide structural steel fire resistance for up to 90 minutes. SprayFilm WB3, however, has been specifically designed and tested for the protection of hollow steel sections that are usually exposed to view. It is believed that the new coating offers the most comprehensive and competitive loadings of any water based intumescent coating.
SprayFilm WB3 is preferably spray applied with airless paint equipment for speed and quality of finish, but brush and roller application is possible. It is applied directly to the contour of primed hollow sections. When subject to fire, a chemical reaction takes place, causing the coating to expand and form an insulating layer, which prevents the temperature of the steel rising to a critical level.
Although durable and decorative in its own right, if required it can be sealed and protected with a decorative topcoat. The coating is easy to apply and is fast drying.
Cafco SprayFilm WB3 is fully tested to BS476: Part 21 for up to 90 minutes fire resistance and assessed in line with the ASFP publication ‘Fire protection for structural steel in buildings’, as referenced in Approved Document ‘B’ of the Building Regulations.
SprayFilm WB3 further extends the Cafco portfolio of structural fire protection materials that already includes spray applied cement and gypsum based products, other intumescent paints and a lightweight mineral wool system. Cafco 300 will given economical fire resistance up to 4 hours on internal steelwork, as will Cafco Mandolite CP2 and Cafco Board. Cafco Mandolite HS3 will also give up to 4 hours resistance, as well as the added benefits of impact and weather resistance.
The all-embracing nature of the Cafco product range now enable the specifier and/or contractor to adopt a single-source product mix and match approach to any given building. Importantly, it also allows Cafco to advise on the most suitable products in a totally unbiased manner. In addition, all Cafco products are installed by company approved applicators providing the client, specifier and main contractor with well installed, as well as well tested structural protection.
