Fendolite MII for huge Kazakhstan project
16/07/2004
Kazakhstan based Tengizchevroil has just placed a huge order for spray-applied Fendolite MII, manufactured by Alfreton based passive fire protection material manufacturer Cafco International, for what is believed to be the largest onshore petrochemical passive fire protection contract to have been awarded in the past twenty-fire years.
The Fendolite MII system is to be applied to structures on the latest phase of the giant Tengiz oilfield construction in Kazakhstan.
Tengizchevroil has repeatedly selected Fendolite MII on all eight phases of the sixteen year-old project, which is hardly surprising since the inorganic coating system is able to provide four hours protection in hydrocarbon based fires and can be installed in a wide range of operational environments.
Established Fendolite MII, a single pack, factory controlled premix based upon vermiculite and Portland cement, has demonstrated its capabilities in jet fires and overpressure situations, as well as its ability to resist damage from water used for fire-fighting intervention.
The monolithic coating is able to withstand the thermal shocks experienced by steel in both cellulosic and hydrocarbon fires and is particularly suitable for off-site applications, or for protecting exposed concrete from explosive spalling. The coating’s low density provides the considerable advantage of severely constraining dead load, yet the coating will not crack, nor spall under mechanical impact.
The Cafco brand name encompasses fire protective boards, wet and dry spray systems, intumescent coatings, acoustics and thermal insulation products. The company is established and recognised worldwide as a leader in the passive fire protection market.
